Day 16 / Dia 16 - Rio de Janeiro, Favela Tour & Maracanã

Day 16 - Nordeste

Oi gente! Today was another fabulous day here in the Northeast of Brazil. Technically, we are in the Southeast now, but that is besides the point. We spent the day doing some sight seeing on the bus. We visited many famous places including the Maracana stadium. My favorite part of the day was going to the favelas, and visiting Para Ti.

Para Ti is a school that started in 1945, when the owner of Fiat bought some houses to turn into schools for poor kids living in the Favelas. It is a free school for kids in need, they aren’t funded by any government support whatsoever; just donations and the money they make off of selling hand crafted items.

This school is a safe place for most kids; where they can get away from the streets, unfortunate family situations, and any other danger they may be in.
In this school, they learn English, practice yoga, meditation, and even put on plays in their little theater. They learn many different art forms and things to keep their creative minds active. The family-like energy of this school is amazing, I love it so much.

After touring the favelas, we went to the stadium and walked around a bit. It was surreal being in a place so famous. I play Fifa video games with my friends, and now I can say I have actually been there. Its especially cool knowing the Olympics will be held here next year.

We finished off the day by going to the markets by the beach and buying a few things. Life as an exchange student is pretty incredible right now. We are so lucky to be having these amazing experiences so early into our lives! This trip is almost to an end, but I have a feeling it will go out with a bang. Super sad to only have a few days left with my new family here, but this trip has definitely been worth it!

Ate mais,

Dia 16 - Nordeste

Oi gente! Tecnicamente, estamos no Sudeste agora. Passamos o dia fazendo passeios turísticos no ônibus. Visitamos muitos lugares famosos, incluindo o estádio do Maracanã.

Ave (ft. Mary).
