Day 17 / Dia 17- Copacabana, Cristo Redentor & Pão de Açúcar

Day 17 - Copacabana, Cristo Redentor & Pão de Açúcar

Hey guys,
Today was maybe one of the most exciting days of the whole trip. We woke up pretty early to visit three of the most beautiful and famous places in Brazil. In the morning we went to the Copacabana Beach, which was incredible, because it is a really big beach with lots of activities to do like playing soccer or American Football on dedicated spaces. The water was way colder than we were used to in the Northeast and David (The Man) lost his glasses again. After that we visited one of the seven new wonders of the world, the Christ Statue. It was absolutely mindblowing and we took some photos and made some "saltos". After this we went directly to Pão da Açúcar, which presented us with the best possible view over Rio de Janeiro. From up here the beauty of this famed city was stunning and the prices were also very expensive. After 1 hour of freetime there and the nice sights we went to have dinner in a nice restaurant with free sushi. We ended our second last night with a Secret Santa round where everyone bought funny and creative presents for each other, so it was a really exhausting but really fun day, and for me the most marvelous station of the trip so far. We are all of course really exhausted now at the end of the trip and have to get up in 4 hours from now, but who needs sleep if you can have so much fun and so many awesome experiences. Best wishes and hopefully more sleep.

Marc and Peter.

Dia 17 - Copacabana, Cristo Redentor & Pão de Açúcar

Oi gente,

Marc e Pete.

Day 16 / Dia 16 - Rio de Janeiro, Favela Tour & Maracanã

Day 16 - Nordeste

Oi gente! Today was another fabulous day here in the Northeast of Brazil. Technically, we are in the Southeast now, but that is besides the point. We spent the day doing some sight seeing on the bus. We visited many famous places including the Maracana stadium. My favorite part of the day was going to the favelas, and visiting Para Ti.

Para Ti is a school that started in 1945, when the owner of Fiat bought some houses to turn into schools for poor kids living in the Favelas. It is a free school for kids in need, they aren’t funded by any government support whatsoever; just donations and the money they make off of selling hand crafted items.

This school is a safe place for most kids; where they can get away from the streets, unfortunate family situations, and any other danger they may be in.
In this school, they learn English, practice yoga, meditation, and even put on plays in their little theater. They learn many different art forms and things to keep their creative minds active. The family-like energy of this school is amazing, I love it so much.

After touring the favelas, we went to the stadium and walked around a bit. It was surreal being in a place so famous. I play Fifa video games with my friends, and now I can say I have actually been there. Its especially cool knowing the Olympics will be held here next year.

We finished off the day by going to the markets by the beach and buying a few things. Life as an exchange student is pretty incredible right now. We are so lucky to be having these amazing experiences so early into our lives! This trip is almost to an end, but I have a feeling it will go out with a bang. Super sad to only have a few days left with my new family here, but this trip has definitely been worth it!

Ate mais,

Ave your fav (ft. Mary).

Dia 16 - Nordeste

Oi gente! Tecnicamente, estamos no Sudeste agora. Passamos o dia fazendo passeios turísticos no ônibus. Visitamos muitos lugares famosos, incluindo o estádio do Maracanã.

Ave (ft. Mary).

Day 11 / Dia 11 - Salvador

Day 11- Northeast Dec 2015 - Visita ao Centro Histórico

Travelling is still the most intense way of learning. Today on our tour to the city of Salvador da Bahia it was proven again. A wonderful colorful city famous for African culture, flavors and a big Faith; we went to the Bomfim church, wich has a lovely tradition of putting colorful bracelets in the fence outside of the church. Each one of them represents three wishes. This tradition it’s one of the most famous in Salvador.

There’s no better way to discover a city than visiting their market. The Modelo market is beautiful and you can find lots of handcrafts, musical instruments, and Brazilian souvenirs.

Finally after one exhausting day and full of culture, we met the famous ¨Bairro do Pelourinho¨, for arrive we go up on the elevator of Salvador where we can appreciate the beautiful view of Salvador. In the ¨Pelourinho¨ there was a ¨batucada¨, people dancing and a lot of street vendors. This is the real Brazil that we all imagine, a Brazil with a lot of party, dance and awesome views. Later, we went to a Brazilian folkor show that was awesome, a mix of African culture and Brazilian culture, with a capoeira show, a spectacular night.

Once we arrived to the beach, everyone played in the sea and some of us went to the banana boat! It was awesome! After that we went on buggys to a mountain. The view was really spectacular and our driver is a funny guy because he drove fast but safely on the sand, he also helped us took many pictures. We are really lucky. After we ate a delicious lunch, we got on the boat back to the hotel. I took a rest and then we went together to do the supermarket to buy some cookies because tomorrow we will stay on the bus almost ten hours.

And we had a party. The party had delicious food and nice DJ. Everyone danced very well. I really enjoyed the party. We also had a swimming pool in the party. Everyone had a good time tonight. Today is a wonderful day!

Day 7 / Dia 7- Maceió

A comida estava gostosa.

Day 7 - Notheast 2015 - Maceió

After a wonderful breakfast we went to the beach in Maceió which has some natural pools in the middle of the sea. We had a lot of fun playing, swimming and taking tons of pictures and making videos. After a couple of hours we went back to the back to the beach, mostly of us went to a handcraft market while the rest of the group stayed at the beach. At 12:30 we got together for lunch in a restaurant called Sueca Comedoria, the food was delicious. After that we went back to the hotel.

In the afternoon went to a beach close to the hotel, Praia do Francês, for our surf lessons, it was amazing and funny at the same time, because some of us did not make it and went back to the beach to eat some fruits and drink water. We stayed there until 5:30pm and at 6:00pm we were back at the hotel; Ronald told us that we would go out at 8:30pm for dinner, but since we had a couple of hours, some of us spent some of that time at the pool and the rest were talking for a while, after that we went out for dinner. The food was really good and there were live forró music (a typical music from Brazil) and we danced a lot, it was a blast!

Today was Natalia´s birthday as well and we celebrated it at the restaurant and she got to dance with her bests friends and the band played the happy birthday song in forró rhythm,

Day 6 / Dia 6 - Lençóis / Maceió

----------------------------------------------------------

Day 6- Northeast 2015- Lençóis / Maceió

After a fabulous breakfast, we prepared everything and headed towards the city of Maceió. It was a day trip where we spent most of the time on the bus, take the opportunity to relax, to play, listen to music and watch movies.

It's always nice to travel as it is possible to view the various landscapes of the country and realize the greatness of Brazil . There are many different ecosystems that make up a country. It was a bit tiring but at last we are on the beach.

Day 5 / Dia 5 - Chapada Diamantina

Day 5 – Northeast 2015 – Morro do Pai Inácio

We were fortunate enough to visit the beautiful Chapada Diamantina, words cannot begin to describe it’s beauty! Brazil is one perfect country and we are lucky enough to be living here. We had a marvelous day, starting with a very tiring walk up the steep hill called Morro do Pai Inacio, but it was worth it because upon our arrival at the top, we got the view of a lifetime . We had a photo shoot with flags from different countries from a place that felt like the top of the world.

Through this we established a special connection as exchange students, as even though we have only known each other for six days, it felt like we have been together for a lifetime. We got to become one with nature as we were far from civilization and the man made world planning. It was only our heart felt connections with mother nature.

Unfortunately we could not go to the natural water slide because of the rain but however being the optimistic people we are, we made the best of the situation and bounded in a local bank where we had taken shelter.

We ended our day by embracing the Brazilian culture through the Capoeira show with some of the exchange students learning a couple of the dance techniques, for after all there is no better teacher than experience.

Dia 5 – Nordeste 2015 – Morro do Pai Inácio

Day 4 / Dia 4 - Pratinha & Lapa Doce

Today started with the typical delicious Brazilian breakfast which contains the sweetest fruits you will probably ever experiment and usually some cake or bread. We headed off really early to go to Pratinha, a flooded cave with crystal clear waters, so clear that it seems seem through. We had the opportunity to go snorkeling and zip line into the water. It was such a good time. The water was full with thousands of little fishes and nature, definitely my favorite part of the day.

After lunch we went on the caves of Lapa Doce. It was really cool because we got to learn about the rocks. Outside the cave it was really hot so going inside it was really refreshing and dark. The walking and hiking was a really different experience but definitely something I won´t forget. Having a beautiful day surrounded by nature was such a cool thing. Our coordinators are super responsible and chill in a good way but really want us to respect time. The bus really feels like our home (we spend most of our time in it) and the exchange students are all super chill too (Specially the Mexicans).

We had our meeting at night and had really good food.
Shout out to the squade.

Love,
Nicole.

A água tinha muitos peixes pequenos e muita natureza, definitivamente minha parte favorita do dia.

Nicole.

Day 3 / Dia 3 - Vitória da Conquista - Lençóis

That afternoon we walked to Serrano River and the Areias Coloridas we saw amazing view of the city of Lençois and went swimming after a hot day.

Day 2 / Dia 2 - Viajando

Dia 2- 02/12/15

Todos sairam satisfeitos do restaurante.
